Higher Levels of Care

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

IOP may be appropriate if you need structured therapeutic support multiple times per week while still living at home. These programs typically include group therapy, skills training, and psychiatric support.

Inpatient Psychiatric Care (IP)

Inpatient treatment may be necessary if there are concerns about immediate safety, severe symptom escalation, or inability to care for oneself. Inpatient programs provide 24-hour monitoring, stabilization, and short-term intensive care.

If you are unsure what level of care is appropriate, the ER or crisis lines listed above can help guide next steps.

Important Reminders

  • If you are experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or others, or feel unable to keep yourself safe, seek emergency care immediately.

  • Crisis resources are available 24/7 and are not a replacement for ongoing outpatient therapy.

  • You are encouraged to save this handout, bookmark relevant links, or keep a printed copy accessible.
